SPAWN Signs Promote a Clean Environment
In conjunction with Canadian Environment Week we placed $7500 worth of signs at strategic points throughout western Newfoundland. The bulk of them went to popular
salmon pools, or entry points to the pools as a reminder to anglers and others to respect the environment and "Keep it clean".
The project was headed by president Tom Humphrey, who said in his press release: "The signs are a part of helping achieve our goals in making the environment better for
future generations. We must continue to look after our natural resources, continuing our proud heritage of so much beauty around us".
The sign project is one of many initiated by SPAWN since its formation in 1979. Others included education projects with the schools, involving essays, poetry and poster
contests; the clean-up of Cook's Brook, and hiring river monitors to identify pollution and obstructions in most western and northern Newoundland rivers.
